  • How does it work?

How it works

On this page, we will walk you through how our auction house works and what steps you need to go through if you want to sell, buy and how the bidding process works.

Sell

Have you run out of your artwork or decided to part with the estate of a loved one? Let the team at Vendu Dickhaut Maastricht sell it for you with knowledge, experience and care.

When losing a loved one, there is a lot on your mind. We are happy to help you with a professional and caring handling of your estate, from the valuation to the clean sweep of a property. We offer both a national and international stage for properties in every price range. Our valuers use their expertise to assess the value of your assets and are happy to advise you on how best to monetise your property.

We would like to draw your attention to the following. When selling our goods, we are bound by international and European legislation regarding goods containing materials from endangered and protected animal and plant species. Read here How this might relate to your goods.

Appraisals

Our experts can give you a considered valuation for auction, insurance, distribution and inheritance according to the guidelines of the Federation TMV. Click here for more information.

Input

Once you have had your goods valued by us and they are suitable for auction, you can decide to bring them in for auction. Our appraisers will advise you on how to bring the goods in for the right type of auction and give an expectation of the possible proceeds. You will receive a receipt, provisionally describing the goods brought in. This receipt acts as your contract with Vendu Dickhaut Maastricht.

After contribution

After contribution, your goods are professionally photographed and, if necessary, more extensive examination is carried out by our specialists. After this, the objects are given a lot number and stored insured with us until the auction. You will then receive a written notification prior to the auction with the final descriptions and guide prices. You can always check the status of your submission in the customer portal of your Vendu account.

After the auction

You will receive your sales invoice within 3 to 4 weeks after the last day of the auction. In the meantime, you can always view your pro forma invoice in your Vendu account. This account shows the proceeds of the goods per lot number minus commission and other costs (see Vendor commission). The net amount will be transferred to your bank account within 4 weeks, once we have received payment from the buyer.

Bidding and buying

If you want to bid in our auction, you will have to register first. You can do this at online registration. Once you have entered all your details correctly, you will receive a confirmation e-mail which you must accept. Once you have completed these steps, you are officially registered and can bid on all our auctions. Below you will find information about the auction types and how the bidding process works for each auction.

Timed online auction

All auctions at Vendu Dickhaut Maastricht are timed online. In a timed online auction, the auction opens online on a specified start date. From this moment, all lots can be bid on. To bid, you must be logged in. You can then bid for each auction object in the online catalogue. You can choose to place a direct bid or leave an automatic bid with a maximum amount. Our system will then automatically bid for you up to your specified maximum. You will receive an email notification as soon as you are outbid. You can bid up to the indicated end date, after which the lots close in stages. This makes it easy to place a bid whenever and wherever you want. If a bid is placed in the last minute, the closing time is extended by 3 minutes.

N.B. When bidding, please note that you are bidding the hammer amount. This amount is increased by commission fees.

After the auction

After the auction, you will receive the invoice by e-mail. The purchased goods must be paid for and collected within five working days. You can transfer your purchased goods by bank transfer, after which you can collect your purchases from us. Click here for more information on the buyer's commission.

Aftersales

Should any goods remain unsold during the auction, you still have a brief opportunity to purchase them after the auction in the so-called 'aftersales'. For this we usually charge the lower guide price plus commission and other costs.
